New conversion of a Schaublin 125 CCN

Post by PLData »

HI,
I am in the process of restoring a Schaublin 125 CCN from the year 1999 with a Fanuc 18i cnc controller.
I want to get a C-Axis on (position of spindle axis) and mount a milling cutter on the cross slide next to the tool changer.
I've looked at AcornSix or HickoryCNC but I'm not sure which would be the best choice.
I am thinking of replacing the old Fanuc servo motor with some newer UpToDate, if AcorSix DMM or Clearpath.
or if HickoryCNC then EtherCAT drives and motors.
The same applies to a new spinning motor which can also be a C-Axis (positioned), does anyone have a suggestion ?

I would recommend going with the AcornSix and Delta ASD-B3-L and ASD-B3A-L (the ASD-B3A-EC also works) drives and servos. The drives have the ability to switch between speed and position mode via an input, allowing full C axis capability. You could technically mix and match between different brands (as long as the drives take pulse/direction) if you want a lower cost option for the X and Z. The AcornSix has 16 inputs and 16 outputs, it would depend on how the tool changer is set up on whether you would need to add more I/O.

Hi Liviu,
Thank you for your reply, I will take a closer look at the Delta servo drive / Motor solution.
