452 Ethernet Communication Error, CNCPC to Controller - Help! <resolved, "Man, everything is working great. ">
Hello everyone. Thanks for reading this and your willingness to help.
Machine: Laguna SmartShop 2 Router 4x8, Teknic servos, ATC, Acorn controller ran by a 12th Gen i7 2.30 ghz, 32 GB ram. (I know its overkill) I have two sealed electronic enclosures, one with high voltage and the other low(er) voltage. (see photos)
Here's what's happening.
When we first rebuilt this machine we had all of the electronics in the stock Laguna large enclosure. We had all of the electronics laid out on one big board that took up the entire enclosure. For the first year of having this setup it was almost flawless. We had a few bumps in the road which is to be expected with a custom built machine, but for the most part we had no issues at all.
Soon after that one year mark we started having the 452 Ethernet Com. Error, tech bulletin 270. My cnc operator would restart the controller and computer and that would fix the issue for a week or two. Then it started gradually happening more and more and became very problematic to our production.
After doing a bunch of research I concluded that we had high & low voltage wires mixed in with control wires and the main cat5 cable and that was causing my error. We decided to get two smaller enclosures to separate high and low voltage and put the computer on a mobile cart with a 10ft tether to create flexibility and space around the machine.
For the first few weeks of this setup it seemed to be working good, 452 error happened a few times but it was much better. Then all of a sudden with no changes to anything I started getting the 452 error 4-5 times per sheet I was cutting. Some days were better than others, but its happens waaay more than it ever has and is costing us a ton of time and sometimes full sheets of material. Not to mention the frustration it causes when it gets on a run of back to back errors. Man, I've never seen something test my patience so much! haha
I got in this morning, turned everything on and haven't ran a single file and it already has the 452 error. Sometime it will run files with the error still there and doesn't stop the file, sometime it stops everything and I have to restart cnc12 and sometimes the controller.
I've attached a report and logs, let me know if you would like to see anything else and thank you in advance for you help.

Re: 452 Ethernet Communication Error, CNCPC to Controller - Help!
First, you are running very old software. Not the cause of the issue but 4.82 is no longer supported. The newer CNC12 software includes a communication stress test to detect errors like this.
Please take the time to follow the details in TB270 and review TB309 to resolve this issue. The Tech Bulletins can be found here:
https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... browse.php
What NIC in in the PC? If it's Intel there are specific settings for those NIC's.
Have you always had that right angle ethernet adaptor? I'd ditch that also. Is that a GOOD quality, shielded ethernet cable going to the PC?
Is the PC connected to the internet? It should not be. It can automatically install updates that cause communication problems.
Lastly, those coiled up motor cables in the bottom of the cabinet can create their own issues with noise, I'd suggest you cut them to length.
There's absolutely no need for separate cabinets if one follows good wiring practices and uses shielded and grounded cables where needed or required. I don't see any in your cabinet. Since Laguna is a Chinese import I'm not sure if they use any shielded cables in their builds.

Re: 452 Ethernet Communication Error, CNCPC to Controller - Help!
Marty advised you over 3 years back in June 2021 as follows:
Other observation is that your CNC PC's cpu, although very fast, is Laptop class. Are you using a Laptop which is not recommended?
You need to address the MPU/PC resends as a top priority but might find this easier on the latest version. Suggest you take full screenshots of all Wizard pages, rename your c:\cncm folder and then do a clean install with the latest CNC12 v5.1. Do NOT restore from previous backups
As Shawn stated above, you still have a shed load of PC/MPU resends and this still needs addressing. Your CNC12 v4.82 is way out of date and in any event appears to have been installed over the top of v4.64 instead of the recommended CLEAN installation.martyscncgarage wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 9:56 am I just looked at your error logs. You have multiple PC MPU Resends. You need to try and find the issue to these:

(1) 06-16-2021 16:14:34 CNC12 Acorn Router v4.64
etc

Nigelo,
When we did the electronics rehousing I bought a new computer which is a Minisforum mini PC. So not a laptop. When we were talking with Marty back in 2021 it was a completely different computer.

Re: 452 Ethernet Communication Error, CNCPC to Controller - Help!
Hey Shawn, thank you for the reply.
I updated to the V5 software and was having issues with our tool touch off and the mfunc6 tool change file not being read. I worked on it for a couple days but couldn't keep my machine down for any longer. So I went back to the older software I knew was working (besides the 452 error) so I could at least keep cutting with frustration rather than not cutting at all.
I will upgrade it to V5 again and run all the PC checks and see what happens.
"What NIC in in the PC? If it's Intel there are specific settings for those NIC's. "
- Yes, intel it is.
"Have you always had that right angle ethernet adaptor? I'd ditch that also. Is that a GOOD quality, shielded ethernet cable going to the PC?'
- The right angle came when we did new enclosures and the cable is a cat6 double shielded.
"Is the PC connected to the internet? It should not be. It can automatically install updates that cause communication problems."
- It is connected but not when i am running files. I will disconnect and no longer have it on if its a major thing.
"Lastly, those coiled up motor cables in the bottom of the cabinet can create their own issues with noise, I'd suggest you cut them to length."
- 10/4 and I agree.

Re: 452 Ethernet Communication Error, CNCPC to Controller - Help!
Start with TB270 and make the changes for the Intel NIC and see if that helps.
Many people run their CNCPC connected to the internet, it's not a major thing, it's just not recommended by Centroid because unless you configure it properly it'll do software updates without you and screw things up.
Your M6 issues with the new software was probably a missed setting by you if it's a custom M6. Same with the tool touch off, probably a setting issue.
I love and use Clearpath servos but I do not use their cables as they are not shielded. I feel they are not good cables although many people use them with success. I make my own shielded cables and have never had issues.

Shawn,
Sure thing. I will start with the updates.
What cables are you using for your teknic setup?

I buy the Molex connectors and pins as I have the special crimp tool for them and I buy the shielded cable in bulk and make my own.Dangerfox.com wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 12:03 pm Shawn,

Re: 452 Ethernet Communication Error, CNCPC to Controller - Help!
Shawn,
I started the V5.1 upgrade today. Everything has been going really well, one issue is when I start a normal file that i've ran a 1000x on CNC12 V4 the Z axis goes in the positive direction instead of negative. So it tops out the Z axis and stops. I remember having this issue before and couldn't figure it out.
I am pretty sure everything else is running great, I'm not getting any communication errors at all. V5.1 is really great.
Thanks for your help.

Re: 452 Ethernet Communication Error, CNCPC to Controller - Help!
You'd have to post a current report and the PDF of your wizard screen shots (open the wizard and press CTRL+P and save the PDF) for us to have a look. Can you manually jog it in both directions? If it's simply backwards you can reverse the direction of the axis. Maybe you had it reversed in 4.82 and missed that setting in the wizard.
