We had a customer call in with a dead m39 console. 173V was found at the PC PSU. Checking incoming Line voltage of the 208, 3phase supply, 173V was found from one leg to to ground/neutral and 157 from another leg to ground/neutral. There was 208 between legs.
This illustrates the importance while trouble shooting, to always check from hot to neutral, as well as from hot to hot. Having a good voltage reading from hot to hot but erroneous readings from hot to neutral is a text book case of an open neutral. In a balanced load the neutral is not required however, when the loads are unbalanced the voltage will reflect the inverse of the current. the load with the least current, will receive the most voltage. In this case it was the PC PSU receiving 173V causing it to POP.
