The DB25 is opto driven and at 5vec logic levels.
The resistor in the cable is dropping the voltage to use with the header.

Report back to DMM and let's see what the suggest.
I have already suggested they use the DB25 based on users experience here.

Can I use this style breakout board? I would like to get this ordered so I can get it if it's what I need. If not I can send it back.

I have been impatient waiting for a response so I decided to make my own db25 cable. Luckily my Dad doesn't throw anything away. He purchased a bunch of printers a few years ago in an auction that had some db25 cables in it. I followed the thread about the missing steps and sure enough my patches up cable is working beautiful on the x axis. I have my dial indicator set up to position of the edge of the table and sure enough its moves back and forth to the same position now. I will reply back with what DMM says though but I really think it's the cables. I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has help me along with anyone who posted any info on getting their machines running and working through issues so we can all learn.

That's good to hear.
PLEASE make sure you let DMM know what you did and that it worked.
DMM has an ACORN, and they certainly should be testing all of this.

I think because so many have trouble with the header connection, and have such good luck with the Opto outputs on the DB25, I suggested Centroid make that change.

Thanks to ALL who have taken the time to work on this and report back. Collectively its how we make things better!

Marty

So do not use the db25 connection on the acorn board? Just wire up a db25 connector for the drive as shown in the pdf?

Do not use the DMM cable as supplied by DMM with the resistor to connect to Acorn Header.
Consult with DMM.

Centroid is not going to support the cable as shipped by DMM. I have created a post, please watch for any updates there:

Marty, I just rewired my cable I made like the wiring diagram suggested from Keith without wiring to the db25 connector on the acron board and screwed directly to the screw connectors. I am losing about .002" per axis stroke. When it was wired through the db25 connector on the board I was not loosing anything.
