How can I tell if the rating advertised by the seller is quadrature or, lines per revolution? When I try to install the encoder I purchased, will I use the rating that the seller provides, or divide / multiply by a factor of 4?
I'm very confused and concerned now.
I suspect that I will just have to try it and see.

Encoders are sold as PPR.

So, the encoder I have ordered is listed as "3600 PR" does this mean that it's 3600 PPR, 1000 lines, or 14,400 quadrature P/R? Or does it provide 900 pulses per revolution extrapolated to 3600 pulses per rev?

You have purchased a 3600 PULSE PER REVOLUTION ENCODER
It will yield 14,400 counts because of the A, /A, B, /B pulses

Watch this short Centroid video:

Watch this video to understand the term "Quadrature" (note: he is using a "single ended" encoder Just an A and B channel):

Phew, thanks Matty, so it will meet the specs on the Acorrn graphic.
Thanks for that.

Maybe and maybe not. You chose to by a Chinese copy of a brand name encoder at a higher resolution. Only good thing is you can change it out if it doesn't work out. You really don't know what the quality *might* be. I personally choose to by reasonable quality components from reputable sources here in the US. I use automationdirect.com a lot and have purchased Centroid's encoders as well.

Yes, the "quality" is a gamble, but in the past I have been happy with that. If it doesn't perform per its specs, I'll get a refund and spend the $ to buy a genuine one.
