How can I verify my part zero before running cnc program on mill using my KP3 Touch Probe?

I would highly recommend to use CHIPS to set Part Zero so you know it's set correctly.

Use MDI to move to X0 Y0 Z1 (or whatever is appropriate)and see if you are where you expect.

Jog the tool down onto a gauge block or broken cutter using your MPG and check that the indicated Z height corresponds to the known height of that reference piece. Using MDI to go to Z1 can result in a crash if the tool height offset is incorrect by more than 1 unit.

"or what ever is appropriate"

It's not a good idea to jog down onto a gage block. You'll chip carbide tools that way. Jog down, slide your gage under the cutter, slide it back out, increment down some more. Repeat until the gage won't go under, then increment up once.

Touch probe not responding

Post by cdiseker »

Hey guys, Using my KP-3 touch probe and a new issue popped up. When setting part ZERO the probe no longer retracts far enough to clear the probe tip. I already configured it as MArtys Garage suggested. Is there something else to look at?

Are you using the single surface probe routine, or the part setup cycles? What is the value in Parameter 13?

z axis single surface stays at the surface so you can set or read that position.

When was that changed? I did not find any mention of it in any of the v5.xx release notes.

In the past, the "Single Surface" probing cycle always backed off from the surface, leading novice users to set incorrect part zero locations (when they should have just used F4/Auto on the Part Setup screen instead).
