Beginning with release 4.14,
You must choose imperial or metric and set everything up that way. You can't switch back and forth any longer.
So if you need metric, set the Wizard up that way.

Set the wizard to metric and type in metric values, its that simple. what's the issue?
First thing I did was set metric however the values stayed Imperial. When I tried to set my maximum speed, for example, at 18000 mm/m it wouldn't let me change the 50 that was there. CNC 12 was being annoying too, load a metric job from the mm folder it stays in G20. Issue G21 from the MDI works when in MDI mode but when I go back to the gcode screen it defaults back to G20. I haven't got too far into setting it up so was going to nuke the install and start again.

Cheers

Crosshatch wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 12:26 pm Out of curiosity, can you restore your old settings by using a "Report" from the older version or is it mandatory to do the Wizard setup?

I'm just curious about all my tool-offsets etc.

NO, do not use restore report from an older version of Acorn CNC12.
Keith does go over retrieving your tool offsets and tool library in a video.

Good to know. Well, I'm in the middle of a job so I'll do this upgrade when it won't potentially mess me up 😁 I also have a dedicated Excel file for my tool offsets and use ir in my shop as a reference and hardcopy when a tool breaks or I'm adding more.

But I have found Centroid Acorn to be awesome since I have had i up and running in June. Will report back!

Just for the record. What Marty is saying is more a recommendation than a fact. You can still switch between Imperial and Metric as many times as you want. What has changed with 4.14 is that the Wizard no longer makes parameter conversions between Imperial/Metric when you make the selection in the Wizard. That means it's up to the user to convert the parameters in the Wizard so they make sense for an Imperial or Metric system.

That said, be aware that switching between an Imperial and Metric system directly in CNC12->Setup still does convert all parameters between Imperial and Metric.

Swissi's point is fairly straightforward but seems to be getting a grudging reception. As he says, changing the system from imperial to metric in the wizard doesn't convert the measurements, it simply changes the units. I'm pretty sure the wizard doesn't configure every machine parameter, so there will be some that end up 25.4 times too slow. You can either wait until they show up in some way at some point or (like me) go through the whole set of parameters and check that they seem sensible. However, if you do what he suggests, those less obvious parameters are more likely to end up with reasonably sensible values in the first place.

Like it or not, the rest of the world outside of the US uses metric, so most of the systems in use in ROW will need to reconfigured. Neither approach is right or wrong.

Uh, better look that up as I believe there are a few other countries that use the Imperial system as well, or at least they did the last time I checked!

Liberia.
Myanmar (a.k.a. β€œthe country formerly known as Burma”)
United States of America.

Also, I don't understand the need to change a machine from Metric to Imperial? Why not just use the G Code to run Metric if you have the machine set to Imperial? (And vice versa)

I have all metric ball screws but the numbers are all set to use inches. Just requires a few calcs!

I must be missing something, as usual! :?

ALWAYS post a report if you can.

Please take a look and follow this video to see if it cures your problem.
