This is clearly explained in the manual and since most threads are symmetrical, easy for the user to work with.

Even more advanced is optithreading and incremental infeed.

One thing not mentioned while using modified flank infeed is if you cut on the right flank as shown, your chips will curl towards the left.

If you cut on the left flank, your chips will curl to the right which is perfect if you are threading up tight to a shoulder. Having the chips curl away from the shoulder prevents them from getting trapped between the cutter and shoulder and marring your work, or breaking your insert.
