The com issues disappeared…for a while.

I set the overall turns ratio by placing a dial indicator (0.0005 inch resolution) on the axis one at a time to dial in the axis movements. I got them within 0.005” and they will all repeat. I bought a larger monitor to get the correct resolution and added it. Went thru the entire set up of Acorn on the computer to make sure everything was correct. Went thru the bulletin’s to make sure that I wasn’t missing anything.

I ran two test cuts, one with smoothing and one without smoothing, and I have run a few more programs without any issues. Both test cuts turned out good and no comm errors. Today I ran a program (pretty big) and it ran with no issues, until the last 5 minutes when I got a comm error and the z axis dropped about 0.250”. I did the ping test no issues, did the stress test and it failed 3 times. I shut down the computer and acorn and then restarted them. Ping was good, the stress test was good, so, I ran the program agian for 15 minutes and no issues. Shut it all down and restated both and ping passed, stress tested failed 4 times, and centroid reported comm issues.

I’m going to micro-center to get a cat7 ethernet cable to see if the helps. Sorry we have bad weather here, so I won’t post a report until tomorrow after I try the new cable.

has to be a shielded ethernet cable.

ground loops? electrical noise? need lots of photos of your install/machine and all accessories to help you.

did you run the PC tuner on the PC? did you try a different PC?

Ran thru all settings and ran PC Tuner, did the ping thing, installed new cat7 cable and ran a 7 hour program, no setting changed, they all stayed the same when PC Tuner was ran. No com errors, ran great with smoothing on, and carve came out looking fairly good. I’ll run another program tomorrow and make sure it repeats with no comm errors before I leave on vacation.

I’m thinking the ethernet cable Centroid sent with the Acorn went/is/was bad. Although maybe the computer was sending signals faster than the Cat5 cable (it was shielded) could handle???? I did get and try another computer and it met the requirements, the old computer met the requirements as well….

Is there a way to reset the errors back to zero so I can monitor the error log as if it were new and see any new errors? I looked thru manual, but I didn’t see an option for resetting errors log.

After running that program again post another fresh report for us.

The single thread rating of your CPU is what is most important, which must be above 1500.
Your new computer, with the i5-6500, has a single thread rating of 2100.
Your old computer, with the i3-2100, has a single thread rating of only 1414.

As each line has a time stamp I'm not sure there's much use in resetting the error log but you can.
msg_log.txt is located in the cncm directory.
You can either delete the contents and save it, or delete the file altogether and CNC12 will generate a new one.

I ran another program today and no comm errors, so I’m feeling pretty good about that. I will post another report once I get back from vacation.

I may hook up the old computer to see if I still get comm errors with the new cable. I’ll report on that as well. I just didn’t have the time to get it and transfer it to another computer and post.
