Drop back to basic bench test.
Unplug all connectors from Acorn
Power up Acorn power supply. Check AC line to power supply for proper AC voltage at power supply AC terminals.
Check Acorn power supply DC voltages at it's terminals.
If ok, power down Acorn power supply.
Plug power supply connector back to Acorn
Plug Ethernet cable to Acorn from PC (do not plug/connect anything else to Acorn. Just power and Ethernet)
Power up PC
Power up Acorn power supply
Do you have Heart beat? Leds on Acorn?
If so, try and start CNC12

It sounds like your power supply is going into overcurrent protection mode, which indicates a short circuit somewhere. Follow Marty's instructions to the letter and you should be able to determine whether the Acorn is at fault or something connected to it.
Are you using your Acorn supply for its inputs?

The Acorn Power supply sole purpose is to power up Acorn. Not to power any other contactors or solenoids.
Run the test as I suggested and report back.

Just to let you know my power wiring is exactly the same as your Emco 5 build I followed that video for the wire up. Coming off of the Acorn PSU, I have 5 volt going to step drives, power to Acorn, then the AC lines piggybacking and going into my Stepper drivers PSU to supply power to that. I do have like 3 grounds coming into PSU. and I think my com coming out of PSU is going to 2 independent terminal blocks for Com and then to my limit switches.

Sorry, I did not phrase that clearly. You do have the Acorn input +24V coming from the Acorn power supply (as per the Emco Compact 5 video). The instructions Marty gave will help you isolate the problem.

Yes is wired up the same as Emco 5.

Hey all, So I guess my Acorn is ok. Ran your test Marty and all checks out ok.
PSU is good I think I get 123 Volts at AC terminals on PSU L&N. Is 123V ok?
Green PSU LED is on and solid.
When powered up by itself I get 24V at V2 & com
5 Volts at V1
Connected power (only 24V & ccm) & Ethernet to Acorn and it turns on as normal. All LEDs are on and look to be normal.
Acorn heart beat is normal.
Powered up PC and Boot CNC 12 Acorn makes connection as normal.
After boot I check voltage and is
23.2V at H9 on both sets of 24V & com terminals
I get 23.2V at PSU on V2 and com
Is 23.2V normal? When I 1st powered up PSU I did get 24V
Just powered down then powered back on to check and I get 23.3V at H9
What is the best way to proceed to test everything at this point. Do I need to isolate every connection 1 at a time? Which is going to be a PIA disconnecting everything?
I think we probably goofed something up when installing tool setter and or spindle stuff. But another thing to consider is when wiring up my DC spindle drive and KBSI 240D I did not install inline fuses. I was unaware of that until seeing your video Marty. So I guess I need to add those in. Since that was a Sherlene knock off machine in your video would the fuse ratings be the same for my machines? I know we discussed HP of the 90Volt Sherline motor but don't remember what the HP is on the motor?

Reconnect your output relays. Power up Acorn, make sure there are no shorts and Acorn is working
Power Down
Reconnect your axis drives, Power up Acorn, make sure there are no shorts and Acorn is working
Power Down
Reconnect your Spindle Analog output, Power up Acorn, makes sure there are no shorts and Acorn is working
Power Down
Reconnect ONE bank of inputs, (the one with out the probe). Power up Acorn, make sure there are no shorts
Power Down
Reconnect the last bank of inputs, Power up Acorn.
Using this method, you should be able to narrow down what is shorting the power supply. (Process of elimination)
Think about the last thing you connected to Acorn, if it was the probe disconnect it, if it was something else, disconnect it
