Parts are starting to arrive. This is the control panel layout. Test piece is made out of 1/8 mdf on the laser to check dimensions, layout, etc. I think this is what I’ll be going with.

Thanks Marty!

The 10HP Hitachi VFD came for the spindle motor. These drives are rated for single phase supply.

I have a Hardinge CHNC lathe on the way that needs a retrofit. Ive not seen it yet but as I understand it has the tool turret setup that is the 'plate' mounted horizontally in relation to the Z axis. Is your similar? I'll need to see about turret logic and if I can run this from Acorn or if I need to look at the bigger brother stuff.

Chaz- my lathe has a X/Z axis setup called Accuslide. This was part of a third party CNC conversion. It’s shown in photos on the first page of this thread. I don’t have any experience with the turret your machine has.

I think you need to do some creative thinking along with ether1616 if you choose go to the route.

Start a new build thread. Should be an interesting adventure.

Touchscreen arrived. Got a great deal on Amazon Warehouse deals. Almost half price.

MDF mockup looks good.

The Hitachi VFD is able to be mounted through the back of the cabinet, placing the cooling fans and heat sink outside. I’ll stand the cabinet off the side of the machine about 3”. Chips shouldn’t be a problem because it’s under the chip tray.

Just FYI, I got away from those consumer grade capacitive touch screens and went with the resistive touch screens. Capacitive seemed to sensitive, to what I would call bounce or multiple inputs when a VCP button is pressed.

I've had good luck with the ViewSonic TD2210

I did build systems with ASUS and they were OK.

Thanks for the info! I’ve read other posts suggesting the Viewsonic resistive screen. I’m using this screen because of its size. It fits in the original control box. I don’t use the touchscreen a whole lot. I have this screen on the mill and I haven’t had any problems.

Can’t beat the $90 price either!

Will do. I've bought 2 machines - this and a Herbert Churchill which not a lot of info exists for. They were cheap - so couldnt leave them - the shipping costs is twice as much as I paid for both machines to put into perspective. Problem is my workshop is not ready but working on that too.
