Hard to tell from the video, but the cutter is not touching the material when it stops. So this isn't a matter of the machine not having enough torque to cut, since it's cutting air when it fails. I have my starting cut positioned about a 1mm away from the surface.

If you turn the spindle by hand in CW direction, is the rpm on the DRO positve or with an - ?

While facing the chuck (looking at it from the tailstock), if I turn it CCW (the direction it turns while cutting), the spindle speed is negative. If I turn in CW it's positive.

IIRC, that's wrong.
Try inserting a minus (-) before your encoder-count-value in the wizard

You must view from the other side, your spindle needs to turn CW for cutting.

Try to set Parameter 34 to -10000

With M3 S100 DRO must show 100 not -100

Yup - that did the trick. Thanks!

I just ran the same part after switching the numbers back to CSS. I think it was a little faster than I'm comfortable with (got up to about 1800RPM near the center, where it hit its limit. So I may slow it down slightly, but it is working now.

It is no trick, just reading the manual ;)

438 Spindle slave position error The slaved axis moved too far in the
wrong direction during a
spindle-slaved move (such as in rigid
tapping). The job is cancelled.
Check Parameter 34 for an
incorrect plus/minus sign in
front of the encoder counts

Rotations about an axis are defined by "looking" along the axis in the positive direction.

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Yeah, my first try brought me similar findings :D
My lathe can spin up to 4krpm, and I (too ;) ) did not set G50 first... Woohaaa, now THAT is fast
