Both Y axis use the same pulse and direction signal wire from the Acorn Board. I am not using Auto-square.
I have extra ball nuts so I can try a double nut setup, but first I need to make sure where the backlash is coming from. It may also be coming from the fixed bearing block. I swapped the bearings for angular contact, and added a bearing shim to get some pre-load. Is 0.0005" backlash a lot?
Uwe, please explain why 4000 steps per rev is better. The theoretical resolution at 2000 steps/rev is .0002" which is way more than I need. I understand it should make motion smoother, but at the expense of speed / torque?

Smoothing for precision milling needs a higher resolution to work best. I doubt you lose speed or torque needed with 4000 Steps.
My steppers could easy turn 3000rpm with this, you only need 1500 rpm for your rapids.
Did you cost nothing but 30min time to try it out

software pairing does not require the user to enter the axis data in the 4th axis, by definition both should be the same, so you can do it if it makes you feel good but the Wizard/CNC12 are going to assume the slave axis is the same as the master axis and use the data entered from the master axis.
and i agree with the 4000 steps setting suggestion.

in the photo it looks like the bore is moving +X and - Y in all cases , is this true?

I am not sure I understand the question.
For the climb cuts the long axis is just like the drawing. With a conventional cut the result is mirrored.
The you tube video with the scales is interesting thanks for sharing.
i run my accel/decell number around .3 (seconds) on a machine like this.

I have not been able to find any documentation on the acceleration setting. Usually acceleration has units of m/s^2 or ft/s^2. In Acorn the unit is in Seconds, so I am guessing that's the time to accelerate to full speed? (Intuitive) Internally there must be a conversion to acceleration m/s^2. If we increase max feed-rate without changing the accel time, the acceleration m/s^2 will increase? What happens when we use feed-rate override?
Sorry if I am asking something that already been covered. I have not been able to find it.
