The control remembers the last job that was run. If you come back a week later, start up the control, and press cycle start without thinking (or you are watching the tool and THINK you are pressing -Z) bad things could happen.

There in no way to actually clear the selected job field, hence loading an empty file.

I get it. But once you load a program, its there until another file is loaded and is typical. I have a Bridgeport Torq Cut22 does the same thing. I suspect most machines do.

For the newbies a null file is a good idea. Until they load a program....and forget its loaded.

Those of us coming over from the Mach 3 world are accustom to the "unload" button that removes the active G-Code file. So we need to develop some new habits!

Loading a null file may be the answer!

I see I am going to have to re-work my Mach 3 setup on the lathe once I finish this mill project as working with two completely different systems will bite me in the backside sooner or later!

How to make CNC12 require two cycle start presses before you get automatic motion.
F1 setup, F3 Config, F1 Control, "Jog panel required" set to "Yes" press F10.

now, cycle start once loads the Gcode..no motion... cycle another time..now you get automatic motion.

Ha, finally found the video! I understand how that works but what does jog panel required actually mean? Is it like your “real” control panel you’d have to push another button to actually get motion? I’m just curious where the terminology comes from.

its a throw back before the times of the VCP. we will update the text to make more sense on the next go around.
