Build - Laguna Smart Shop 1 - RichAuto A11e
Hello Forum,
I'm new here and new to Acorn, CNC12 and to Forums...
I have a 2015-ish Laguna SmartShop 1 4x8 CNC router that I'm in the process of adding an Acorn Controller & WMPG-6 Pendant to. My CNC is, was controlled by a RichAuto A11e controller and 4 Yako YKA2811MA drivers (see attached photos) but is currently DOA. My goal for this post is to get my machine up and running with axis, spindle (on/off) and maybe speed control. The rest will follow.
My current state of installation is as follows:
• 24V power from old RichAuto connected, decided against using the supplied power supply for space constraints and besides the supplied power
supply was producing 23.7V vs my machines which was at 24.0V and that way everything would be on the same same common negative (working)
• the three proximity switches are connected to inputs 1-3 (working)
• tool touch probe is connected to probe input 4 (working)
My current problems:
• the RichAuto has 3 control wires per axis labeled DIR,PULSE AND 5V (see pictures). I've tried different combinations connecting to the H2 screw
terminals for the X-axis on ST1, DR1 and EN1 but have yet been able to get the axis to move. When I turn the pendant dial the axis on the screen
moves but nothing on the machine, the green light on the board even lights up I have added a "YAKO" drive with the basic settings to my wizard.
made sure there are no faults. I feel that I'm missing a common terminal for the axis or something stupid in the drive setup.
If anyone has experience with my setup or similar I would greatly appreciate the help. I've looked around the forum and haven't found anything specific to my setup. That I've found anyway, like I said at the top I'm new to this world. But one thing that I've noticed is a bunch of people telling others that their drivers aren't any good and the need to replace them with _____. I'm of the notion that I'm going to dance with the girl that I brought to the dance first. If the RichAuto Controller has been able to run this machine for 10 years there's no reason the Acorn cant.
Thanks,
Matt

Matt, those are 5v stepper drives and they wire up to the DB25 on the Acorn. You'll need a DB25 breakout board to connect them to the Acorn. They do no wire up the headers on Acorn. The headers are for servo drives and the DB25 is for stepper drives. This is all outlined in the install manual.
Those drives will not work connected to the Acorn headers like you've been trying.
Follow diagram S14976 which is for the most basic stepper drives that are 5v. The Yako are just Leadshine clones and work on the DB25 output.
https://www.centroidcnc.com/dealersuppo ... 976.r4.pdf
The Acorn will fully control the VFD and turn it off and on and automatically control the rpm. No more manual control of the VFD is needed. You'll have to change some parameters on the VFD but this is easy.
Unless the power supply that came on the machine is a dual power supply, 24v and 5v, you'll need to use the power supply that came with your Acorn as it is a DUAL output power supply. It has the 5v you need for your stepper drives and the 24v you need for Acorn. You can install as many power supplies as you want in the machine just be sure to tie all the negative or common legs together. The RichAuto controller has a 5v regulator built in and that is what supplied the 5v to the drives before. You need a 5v power supply for the stepper drives and that is what the power supply that came with the Acorn is.

Re: Build - Laguna Smart Shop 1 - RichAuto A11e
Shawn,
Thanks for the quick response! Lucky for me I ordered a DB25 last night. If I'm reading the diagram correctly, for the x-axis I'll use pins 2 & 3, y-axis 4 & 5, ect. Then I'll pick up a terminal block to tie the 4 drives 5v terminals together with the Acorn power supplies 5v terminal? I'll also tie my machines low voltage power supply common with the acorns common?
Are there any changes that need to be made to the axis setup once I select the Leadshine DM?
I should be good working my way thru the speed control setup for the VFD I've had to make some changes in the past to the setup of it.
Thanks again,
Matt

Great, the DB25 will solve the problem. And yes to your questions, pins 2-9 are the step and direction for all four axis and tie the 5v lines for the drives to the Acorn 5v power supply. Just put a jumper between your old 24v power supply ground or common and the Acorn power supply ground or common. This way they share a common ground.matt k wrote: ↑Fri Apr 11, 2025 11:14 am Shawn,

I would set those drive to either 1600 or 3200 steps and then set the Acorn wizard to match. For your drives the SK rotary switch will be set to either 8 for 1600 steps or 9 for 3200 steps. I'm guessing it's set to A right now.

Re: Build - Laguna Smart Shop 1 - RichAuto A11e
Thanks! Axis' are all working! Took some time to dial in the rotations per inch to get 100% accuracy with movement. I'm back at it tomorrow, I'll relay the final numbers for all axis'. The motors sound different than they did with RichAuto controller, is this normal?
Much appreciated!

Re: Build - Laguna Smart Shop 1 - RichAuto A11e
Hi all,
I need some help getting my Delta VFD hooked up to control my spindle speed. From looking at my manual I thought it was terminals AFM & ACM. I tested with a AA battery and my speed didn't change. Here are the pages from the manual. Do I have it wrong?

Any recommendations for a contactor that will run my 120v 1hp dust collector?

Re: Build - Laguna Smart Shop 1 - RichAuto A11e
One of these would work fine. Just break the hot wire going to the dc and run to the ac contacts. Send 24v dc to control from one of your relays that came with the acorn

Re: Build - Laguna Smart Shop 1 - RichAuto A11e
Hi All, I spent a few hours yesterday dialing in my axis overall turns ration on all three axis I now have all three axis' accurate to less than 0.0005" over 11" in the x & y and over 6" in the z (my biggest caliper is only 12" long). I don't know if I changed something when I finalized my adjustments yesterday but today when I fired up the machine and started to jog with the pendant on either 1x, 10x or 100x the motion is pulsing. It runs a program fine and when the machine homes itself its fine as well. Anyone have any insight into this?
