I just bought the KP-3 probe. In order to use it to set Z 0, I need to know the tool height offset for the probe/holder combination. I assume I use the same manual process for this as I have done for all of my other tools. True? If so, do I set the height at the point the LED is triggered or do I back off 1 step (1X) from that point?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Setting tool height offset for KP-3 probe
Greg,
hello.
how and where is the machine home position? what kind of machine is this?
are you using the set machine home at the z+ position?
or are you using the reference tool method?
please post a fresh report.zip. photos of the machine.

Re: Setting tool height offset for KP-3 probe
Yes, you should measure the probe's height offset on the same surface that you use to measure all your other tools.I assume I use the same manual process for this as I have done for all of my other tools. True? If so, do I set the height at the point the LED is triggered or do I back off 1 step (1X) from that point?
You should be able to use F3/Auto to make the probe measure itself.
That will ensure that the touch-off procedure when you measure the probe is identical to the touch-off procedure when you use it in part setup.
