Beaglebone fried?

Post by NitrousB.I.G. »

Hello all,

Im finishing the wiring of my Acorn and it suddenly quit. Everything was working fine then the CNC12 gave an error message that the ethernet was no longer connecting shortly after a Windows update. The heartbeat was no longer flashing but the Acorn board 24v light was still on. Plugging in the Beaglebone to a micro USB and nothing lights up. I get a flash of what I think is the power light for a split second when I press the power button.

I have ordered a new Beaglebone board but I am stressed other stuff is fried. Are there further tests to make sure the Acorn is OK?

Thanks

Hello,
welcome to the forums.
Do you see any noticeable burn marks or fried spots on the Acorn?
If you can, post some nice close up pictures of the Acorn.

Update:

I picked up a new Beaglebone, programmed it, and the power light comes, and has a heart beat when plugged in to the micro USB. So, the old one was fried. But as soon as it is on the Acorn the power light comes on, the lights around the eithernet come on but no heartbeat. The boards 24v power light is on and all the input/output lights are on. So, the Acorn board seems to not be communication with the Beaglebone or stopping the Beaglebone from starting up.

I have looked on the board for fried stuff (with a magnifying glass) and everything looks OK. I will try to post pics today.

Is there programming that needs to be uploaded to the Acorn? I'm stumped at this point.

I also disconnected everything from the board, no change. And followed everything (I think) on the Centroid debicking page.

I forgot to mension that everything was working, I was setting up things in Wizard when the eithernet communiction error came up on the screen.

One other thing is that the board is sitting on 3d printed stands, i'm not sure if board needs to be grounded through the board mounts?

hello. sorry you are having issues.
a properly debricked/programmed BBG will boot and then go to the heatbeat when the Acorn is powered.
Centroid has a a DIY swapout program where you you can swapout a fried acorn for a new/refirb one for $200
