Today's WTF moment, I have to share with the other OCD and CDO types:
Stripped the jacket off a length of West Penn encoder cable -- probably an old M400 console extension cable -- to make a test pigtail.
Found a soldered splice in one of the strands, inside the factory jacket.
Is this normal in wire and cable manufacture? What if you just happened to cut and strip it there, thinking you were going to install pins for a connector?

I remember seeing that once before. I don't remember it having heatshrink, just twisted together and soldered wire.
