Drawing cabinet schematics, Acorn symbols?

Post by MartinC »

Hi all,
for documentation and planning I'd like to draw a schematic of my SX4 mill CNC conversion.
Any recommendation for what drawing program to use?
Are there any symbols for Acorn, AcornSix and all the accessory boards available?
I use KiCad a lot (for electronics), but this is neither meant nor recommended for drawing electrical wiring diagrams. I still might abuse it for that because I am already familiar with KiCad, saving me some time.

I use Lucid Chart and just copy / paste the images so its not nearly as 'automated' or specific as what you might want.

I've used copy/paste from one of the schematics on the schematics page linked below too, using Visio (simply because it's what I have).

I am starting with the downloading the dwg schematic and use AutoCADLT.

Easy to generate blocks for reusing parts of the schematic.

I still use AutoCAD 2018 and edit the Centroid DXF files to make my own. Probably similar to what Uwe does. There are a handful of free CAD programs to use, just do a Google search for them.

Ah yes, Centroid provides also DWG (not DXF, but converters exist) files. Tried importing those, unfortunately there seems to be no common grid, neither imperial nor metric. Was anyone else successful at determining the used grid spacing?
I'll be making KiCad symbols and aligining the input at least roughly to 50 mil grid would help.

I solved all 2D CAD problems with freeware like LibreCAD with AutoCADLT....

Grid is 0.5 right from Centroid after opening the DWG.
