THC wiring help needed

Post by landmark573 »

I am finishing up a new DIY plasma table build using the Acorn Plasma controller without THC. It is running great using a Hypertherm 45xp with machine torch mounted on a round mount with two proximity sensors. Both sensors are configured as torch touchoff but act as breakaway sensors while cutting. I’m adding the THC now and have a wiring question.

The proximity sensors are connected to the Acorn controller but all of the THC schematics show them passing through the THC TX/RX boards to the Acorn. Since mine are already wired directly to the Acorn is it necessary or required to pass them through the THC?

It is not necessary to pass them through the THC. It is shown as such on the schematics to eliminate possible noise picked up by the proximity sensors (and their cables) from interfering with the other circuits using the Acorn's input power supply. If you have no issues with noise then you'll be fine to keep it wired as it is now.
