New User, Cant jog motor

Post by Barley65cm »

Hi all, sorry for the very basic question. I purchased the Acorn Six and completed the bench tests and all is good. Im simply trying to jog a stepper (X axis H1) before i really get into the build, but no joy. I ran the wizard with my driver DM860T, verified all wiring, and my motor has got warm sitting so I know there is power there. But when I use the jog keys I cant get any movement.
Should I be able to jog as long as the display is showing? Am i missing a step? I have watched about 3 hours of video and I have built several CNC machines (different controllers) and I feel like things should be moving.

Thanks in advance

start by documenting your build, report.zip, photos, which wiring diagram are you using? link to drive manual, etc.. here is how.

are you using the enable signal to the drive?

Yes i connected the ENA1 to the ENA positive to the drive

I dont see a schematic thats specific to my drivers, but others show a 24v jumper wire from the transformer to Input 5 on the board. Do I need this jumper wire as well?

disconnect it for the bench test. that is most likely what is stopping the drive from moving the motor.

PDF S14976 is similar to my driver and shows a jumper wire from the 24V input on my board to a "24 in" port in H4. I do not see this on my inputs just a Com 1-4. I assume I need this jumper wire?

Use this one:

https://www.centroidcnc.com/dealersuppo ... 147.r2.pdf

Do not wire DM860T to H1 24V, use H14 5V

Schematic S14976 is for Acorn, you stated you have the AcornSix. Two totally different diagrams. Ignore S14976.

Follow the schematic Uwe posted and dont hook up the enable lines at first. If the motors lock without the enable line hooked up they are enabled by default. 99% of steppers are enabled by default and do not need a connection.

Post a current report from the machine as well. We need this to see how you have the board configured.

OK,
I rewired like Uwe said and followed PDF S15147. Tripled checked all wiring can connections. Motor locks, but no movement. I am on the 5v side of the board and the driver switch is set to 5v on the driver. I tested the driver and motor outside the board and it operates. I wired the input and e-stop temporarily like in the diagram thinking that might help. ENA is not wired. If I wire it, the motor unlocks.

I will look and see how to run the report and post. There is almost no configurations yet as im still on the bench.
