Support ethercat spindle?

Post by krobertson »

Does Hickory support communicating with the VFD over ethercat? There is a ethercat module for the VFD that I have, and if Hickory supported it, it would be a nice little boost to simplifying wiring even further.

From the site, with how it lists the compatible servos, it seems like ethercat is only supported for the drives.

Hi, Hickory can handle incremental encoders or only absolute?

Encoders used for what purpose?

For the axis drives, we need an index pulse or multiturn absolute encoder for homing. We generate an index pulse from single turn absolute and can get an index pulse from the ClearPath-EC models.

Spindle and scale encoders connected directly to the Hickory must be differential quadrature output which implies incremental. Encoders connected to the Encoder Expansion board can be incremental or absolute as that board supports BiSS B and C.
