THC not working in the Y Axis
Good morning.
I am having trouble with the THC on my plasma table.
It works great in the X direction but not the Y direction.
I cannot for the life of me figure out why or how this is even possible.
It happens in straight lines in the Y direction along with circles where the y direction is more of a percentage than the X direction. The THC just turns off and I can watch the voltage change until the touch collides or raises. But as soon as it turns a corner, it corrects it self. Super Weird. (hope that makes sense)
I have attached my most recent report, but I did have to delete quite a few plots to make the file small enough.
Any help is appreciated.

Re: THC not working in the Y Axis
The THC voltage readings look pretty good/ clean.
I made an explanation video of one of your PLOTs. Link to the google video is here https://photos.app.goo.gl/VuJqfYy8pMECNxX98
I think your best bet is to Updated to the 5.2 Software for Better smoothing with low resolution systems.
In the Wizard you can Select CTRL-P to save your wizard settings as a PDF for easier re entry when you update to 5.2
Are the Results the between smoothing OFF and ON?
Is there any chance you could increase the Drive Step rate? 2000 steps with a .7 overall turns ration is pretty low.
What feed rate is the Job running at?
Is the 200ipm for X and Y really the max rate? It may help to Get the Max rate for X and Y up a little higher.

Re: THC not working in the Y Axis
Joey,
I cannot update to the 5.2 software. I tried and had nothing but problems with my torch touch-off and break-away switch as it won't let me set pin 1 to normally open. I spent a whole day trying and switching wires around and no previal so I went back to 5.10. My touch-off would work but it would say that my breakaway was active or vice versa. Maybe there is a fix for this?
If I remember right, if I turn smoothing off, the thc works as it should. But I don't quite remember. Going in a straight line shouldn't even be using the smoothing feature?
I cannot get my Y axis to go faster than 200 ipm due to the gear reduction, they start skipping. Believe me, I have tried. The x axis, I can easily get it up to 300 ipm but I didn't see the benefit of one going faster than the other?
I could mess with the drive step rate I suppose but would I be doing this on the step controllers or in the wizard? What would be the benefit of this? It seams to have plenty of resolution.
I was cutting 14ga at that time at 100 IPM I believe. I was cutting some detailed stuff and at 150 ipm, the 1200 lb table was shaking it self apart.
Thanks for everything.

Re: THC not working in the Y Axis
Joey,
Would it help at all if I went and did a couple 4" line tests? 1 in the X direction, 1 in the y direction but with smoothing on and off? and send those plots?

Re: THC not working in the Y Axis
Smoothing if enabled affects the whole job not just arcs.
Try Setting Parameter #223 to 100. This will help smoothing with low resolution.
The Wizard Step rate should always match the Drive step rate. If you change the Drive's step rate be sure to match the Wizard's for that axis.
There are no issues related to touch off with 5.2 I'm aware of. Some settings have moved around in the Wizard.
I can help you setup the 5.2 software on TeamViewer and check out your touch off problem.
Sure, you can try some straight cuts. Changing parameter 223 should also make a noticeable difference
Ill load your report and try some tests on my Acorn, Do you have a specific Gcode that has the velocity issues?

Re: THC not working in the Y Axis
Some help with the update would be sweet, it was more user-friendly and if it has better smoothing, even better! A video thing like you were saying would be great as putting my problems into words would be very hard.
where is Parameter #223? Is that in the wizard?
I will get on those straight cuts soon.
I have never noticed velocity issues before, the program is saying that it is at the correct velocity. So, no specific g-code.

Re: THC not working in the Y Axis
What type of float switch and breakaway are you using?
Here's another video showing how to change Parameter 223 https://photos.app.goo.gl/Cw3r7oBA1qRYPHuQ7
The Path to the parameters list from the CNC12 home screen is F1 setup- F3 Config- F3 Param

Re: THC not working in the Y Axis
Thank you for that.
I am using a limit switch mounted about the Z axis slider and the boss manufacturing break away. Both are wired as normally open.

Alright that sound simple enough.
When would you be available for TeamViewer?

The later the better for me as I am at my day job. How late are you available?
