Build Thread: Ramsay CNC Plasma Question
Hi, all.
Here's a link to photos,
Also, a report from today is attached.
Trying to get the Acorn controller functional, talking to the 90ST-M04025 motors with AASD-20A Drivers.
Presently, the controller functions with blue flash without 24v connection.
Problem is when I connect the 24v to the motor drivers through the db25s the Acorn stops working, just the green flashing on the power supply.
Even if I disconnect the db25s, still no Acorn, so it's not a driver short.
Any advice? Distributor confirmed the pin layout, a picture of which is with the photos.

Hello,
The link to the google photos album is not working. It looks like you copied the URL from the google photos homepage and not the sharing URL for the album.
Green light flashing on Acorn power supply means it went into overcurrent or other protection modes. A short somewhere is the most likely culprit.

Re: Build Thread: Ramsay CNC Plasma Question
Probably not the problem but are Earth Ground terminals of the servo drives connected to the Earth Ground of the Acorn's power supply? I cannot make out if there is a common bus bar or anything for PE. Did you leave the jumper between the Earth Ground and output common on the power supply?

Re: Build Thread: Ramsay CNC Plasma Question no. 2
hi, all.
The short was in the bracket holding the db25 breakout boards, so that problem is fixed. It helped to know the problem definitively, thanks centroid467.
The next challenge is to get the Z-motor turning. I have power to the driver and the Z led lights on the Acorn when I jog Z, but no motor turn.
Pictures are on the link on the first post above, starting with 1000006743.
Any help would be much appreciated. New report attached.

Re: Build Thread: Ramsay CNC Plasma Question
Did you disable the Servo Enable input on the drive's SigIn1 pin? That should be Pn052.
Are the drive's digital inputs powered? I believe you need to run 12 to 24 volts and signal ground/power supply common to them to provide the pull up voltage. It is possible that the unpowered state of the inputs is the expected disable signal.
from the drive manual you provided.

Re: Build Thread: Ramsay CNC Plasma Question
Hi, you ask "Did you disable the Servo Enable input on the drive's SigIn1 pin? That should be Pn052".
Do you mean pin6 on your diagram? Where's pin 052?
You also ask "Are the drive's digital inputs powered?"
Going to pin 3 in the db25 for CN2 is 24v for all servos, which are all now grounded.
Also, the Com is connected to ground at the power supply.
Right now we have all powered up but no signal is coming to the z-axis drive 4-pin plug at the end when the axis is jogged.
Any other suggestions?
