Acorn Lathe CNC12 software has been released!
Check out this shaky out of focus video of our in house Techno Lathe equipped with and Acorn CNC controller.
The Lathe is being powered by stepper motors for the X and Z axis, the stepper motors are driving by a Gecko G540 stepper drive which is connected to the Acorn CNC control board. The CNCPC is running Windows 10 and Centroid CNC12 Lathe CNC software, the part programs (Gcode) was created by Centroid's own conversational programming system that is included with the Acorn CNC control kit. "Intercon"
The Lathe has a 3 phase spindle motor that is run by a Teco VFD that is controlled by the Acorn board.
The Lathe has a 2000 line (8000 count) encoder mounted 1:1 with the spindle and that plugs into the Acorn board as well.
The entire CNC system runs off of 220 SINGLE phase power. The VFD synthesizes the third leg needed by the 3 phase spindle motor. this is nice the whole machine can run off a typical dryer outlet in any garage or basement.
The video shows Rigid Tapping, Threading, Profiling, Drilling and Constant Surface Speed turning.

Threading is simple and impressive on how it works so well with Acorn, but you got to get the details right!
1.) correct encoder. https://centroidcncforum.com/viewtopic. ... der+basics
2.) 1:1 mount
3.) Z axis motor sized so it can actually move the Z axis fast enough to keep up with the threads. (remember the Z is electronically locked to the encoder while threading! you can test this as well before doing your first test thread)
4.) Use intercon until you get it working only then introduce yet another unknown.
Test with simple threads using Intercon at slow RPM speeds using brass or wax.
Watch out for unrealistic g code program speeds and feeds during testing.
