Blunt Start Higbee Threading with Intercon
I love using Intercom for simple parts but one thing that I have not been able to figure out is how to debur threads with a higbee like tool path on my lathe. My goal is to cut off the first half thread or so down the the minor diameter in a manor that removes any start to the thread that is not fully formed. When using intercom it creates a G76 cycle that pauses after each pass before retracting the tool. I also attempted to use a tapered thread with a grooving tool but I had the same issue. Can someone please point me in the right direction to deburing threads with Intercom?

Unless you have a C-Axis, and live tooling on your lathe, you cannot make a blunt-start, also known as Higbee, thread on the lathe. You create the thread on the lathe, but the blunt start is added as a second operation on the mill.

Thanks for the reply tblough, but that is one method to create them. There are dozens of articles online showing another method to do this on the lathe with a G32 or G76 cycle - I'm just not having any luck so far.

Try to use Chamfer Amount 1 for the Higbee cut. Add the distance from the edge to the tip of your thread insert to the starting point in Z for the Higbee cut.

The Higbee thread can be cut on a Centroid lathe. You do NOT need C-axis or live tooling.

The one cut method did not make a nice surface finish on my lathe, milling with the C-Axis is much cleaner and also very fast to setup without CAM.

Thank you everyone for your help on this. cnc_smith, your document was a winner. I have never written any M or G codes before except simple position in the MDI mode and I took it slow and clenched tight but ended up for a great result! Thank you again.
I used blue sharpie to try and show the cut as best I could in the attached picture. I wanted to simply remove any thread that was not full width to get rid of that nasty burr that forms. I'm not sure if there is an easier way to do this but I'm happy with the results. I've seen a way to "trick" fusion 360 into doing a Higbee but I don't have a license and the free version does not allow tool changes. I'm very pleased with Intercon over all.
