Thank you for your suggestion! Cutting the marker with a tool and setting the offset between the spindle axis and the crosshair is indeed a very accurate method. What I’m referring to here is reticle placement. Whether using this USB camera method or the crosshair laser method, it’s crucial that the reticle points to the same spot even when the Z-axis moves. Ideally, the camera axis should point straight down, but adjustable reticles make fine-tuning easier.

I understand your concerns about the complexity and ease of maintenance of webcam-based systems. I too prefer simple solutions, but I found the laser method too imprecise and cumbersome for attaching and detaching touch probes. So, I decided to try this method. With low-cost touch probes like the one I use, the error margin becomes too large without readjusting each time the probe is attached or detached.

Welcome to the digital age ;) The inspiration for this project came from seeing spindle microscopes being used on YouTube. While digitization brings complexity, I believe it also offers many advantages.

Maybe your attachment of the laser is far different than mine as I never have to touch or move it as it's permanently mounted out of the way to the back plate that the Z axis moves on. I have it programmed into macro 2 on my WMPG with my own custom macro as the OEM macro leaves a lot to be desired. My touch probe goes in the spindle and I really only use it for digitizing parts. Again, good luck with your project.

Sorry if my English isn't clear.I also use a fixed crosshair laser, but I found it challenging to achieve the necessary precision with a crosshair laser. As you mentioned, it’s fine for rough WCS alignment. Additionally, the touch probe I bought from AliExpress requires readjustment every time I detach it, which is cumbersome. That’s why I decided to try this method. Thank you for your understanding and support.
