Depends on the CAM. You can have a complete machine model to do simulations, detect possible crash...
Very handy for multiaxis mill turn machines.

It sounds like you may be asking about the G-code preview when a file is loaded.
In the Wizard...Preferences/CNC Control, and set "Part G-Code Preview On Job Load" to "Yes".

post a fresh report.zip so we can see your configuration settings.
G code preview is a feature in CNC12 that is not on by default in some installations, to turn it on use P417 (part g code preview) as pointed out by Uwe (thanks)
other g code job related parameters are:
Display active g codes. P46
Run time graphics on by default P150 ( i set this to NO, as you can always go into the graphics mode at any point from the main screen)
Remember last g code job after restart P401
