Dual-Mode controller (or motor)?

Post by MichiganCNC »

I came across this schematic posted on Dec 11 2023 https://www.centroidcnc.com/dealersuppo ... 220.r1.pdf
that shows a "Dual-mode AC Drive" hookup. But I can't find what or where a dual-mode ac drive is, either on Centroid, acorn forum or google.
What is it?
I think it sounds exceedingly promising for a lathe setup, given that on the Acorn Six one must drive the spindle motor in velocity mode using the 0-10V output and then for C-axis mode, drive it [let's say the same spindle motor] as a stepper from an entirely different connector.
This might also help with the encoder count (need one encoder for spindle velocity and need another separate encoder for when it is in C axis mode).
Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Thanks cnckeith!
Uwe points to JMC servo driver and servo motor as being able to drive in dual-mode.

1. Not sure why the schematic got posted by Centroid in Dec 2023. Uwe’s implementation is from early 2022. Is Centroid planning to sell soon dual-mode servo drivers/motors too?
2. The JMC stuff looks like it’s 3phase. I was hoping for single phase 120V. I need to look at the JMC stuff further in detail and see if it, or equivalent from other manufacturer, is available in US.

I run the JMC servos single phase 230V

There are lots of servo drivers on the market with speed / torque / position mode

Leadshine / Lichuan / Delta / JMC / Rattmmotor ect.

Thanks for the reply Uwe!
You said you used JMC because they allow software switching from 0-10 voltage input to puls/dir input https://centroidcncforum.com/viewtopic. ... 805#p62805
and they have Zri homing.
I quick looked at Leadshine but they have gone over to ethernet input only, so that wont work for Acorn where the control outputs to the drives is discrete wires and not ethernet.
I am looking for a single motor solution for spindle and C axis.

EL8 Leadshine:

https://www.leadshine.com/product-detai ... 2000F.html

But only 2kw, will work on a small lathe as a single drive.

Lichuan 4.5 kw with speed and position mode:

Thank you Uwe.
Those are perfect - I will investigate further.
I was hoping for a 1ph 120V solution, but maybe there is no such thing.
