The Centroid CNC PC tuner v1.0 has been released.

Dear Centroid Beta testers,

We created an app to check and configure a Windows 10 or 11 CNC PC for use with Centroid CNC hardware and software.
config1.png

This app is named the "Centroid CNC PC Tuner" and i'm happy to announce that it is now available in beta release.

This app aims to automate all the Windows settings that previously needed to be made manually to prepare the CNC PC for use as a CNC control computer.

The app also will check the PC's Hardware to see if the PC meets the minimum hardware requirements, including CPU single core speed!

Guidance:

- Create a Windows restore point before running the App so you can restore windows to its previous settings after you run the Configurator if you like.

- Some users may experience their anti virus complaining about this app, usually you can defeat the warning by 'run anyways', make an exception for the app, or better yet anti virus off so you can run it.

1.) Download the zip file, unzip and run the installer. (note: the installer is basic, minor labeling improvements will be made in the next build) click close when installer is done.

2.) Then double click on the CNC PC Configurator Icon located on the desktop.

3.) Choose one of the Icons on the left and click the button in the lower right to run it.
config 2.png
When you click on one of the four icons a list of what it will do appears in the Task table before you press the button in the lower right to run it.
anything that fails will have a red X in the check box when done.

Please give it a go and give me some feedback as we move to finalize an official release.

Thanks in advance and let me know if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Keith

I ran the app on a computer I removed from service just to check out the App. The first time it said the PC did not meet the minimum requirements. However the second time it passed.
I broke this computer out for setting up a new machine and don't plan to use it, but since it was laying a round...
HP EliteDesk Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4590T CPU @ 2.00GHz 2.00 GHz It is ok for setting up an Allin1C? 1651/709 is the score depending on who you believe.
At one time lathes could get by with a slower machine but it appears they now require the same specs as a mill

That CPU passes the benchmark test, barely at 1651. 1500 is the cutoff for mill/router and 1200 for lathe. You should only refer to the same website that Centroid uses for their benchmark scores, the one posted on the Centroid website, CPUBenchmark.net. You cant use any other benchmark site as you'll be comparing apples to oranges. I use a lot of the mini ProDesk and EliteDesk PC's from HP and they work well. Albeit with faster CPU's.

thanks for the feedback,
yes, lathes now require the same speed cpu. as we added the G64 feature to lathes which requires it. if you don't plan on using G64 with your lathe then you are ok with that PC

fyi its good to know the single core rating of the CPU but, the best is an acutal speed check by running G64 on the CPU with the PC tuner (now renamed) which tests the PC as a whole system by actually running it on the PC and measuring the results. :D

I started to set up the pc that I ran the configurator on a few days ago and wanted to get to the Centroid site... for some reason I am unable to get there and the forum is intermittent. Is it possible that the configurator shut out the centroidcnc site? I have no trouble getting to other sites and the computer beside the one I'm working on gets to the Centroid sites.... just weird!
UPDATE - I reset my computer and "fixed" the access problem but I'm guessing I will have to reconfigure the setup for CNC12

I tried this on three machines (with OAK boards) and it worked flawlessly except for the pop-up window for creating a restore point.

The "Create a Restore Point Now" link in that window points to a "System Restore" and NOT create a restore point.

thanks for the feedback! looking into it.

from that windows menu can you choose to create a restore point by navigating to it somehow? or?
