Losing steps?
I've started encountering a new problem the past month while cutting some 3d wood carves on my acorn powered home built router.
The last time I had similar juddery steps like this, I was driving the machine too hard with my acceleration values, so naturally, this time that's the first thing I have tried. Unfortunately It hasn't worked. I've more than doubled the acceleration times, I'm cutting half the speed that I typically cut aluminum at, and I'm cutting pine.
Here's a video of it cutting at ~35in/min, with 0.8s acceleration times. Is this a static/EMI issue I know cutting wood can be pretty staticy? I tried pinging the IP address and it said no packets were lost though.
I'll update with a report file soon as well.

Re: Losing steps?
Here's it trying to run at 70in/min, 0.8s acceleration, and basically no load on the cutter since it's rerunning a cut area for testing.
And here's the Gcode from Aspire

Re: Losing steps?
The first thing I would do is remove the motors and move all axis around by hand to make sure everything is smooth and easy. Grounding dust collection is important.

Re: Losing steps?
I'll try this tomorrow night, but it jogs at at 200in/min without any noticeable trouble, so I don't really think it's binding up enough to cause this.Ken Rychlik wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 11:11 pm The first thing I would do is remove the motors and move all axis around by hand to make sure everything is smooth and easy. Re: Losing steps?
error log says all your limits are tripping.
could be anything in common to all these that is related to that.
- loose wires
- loose ground/common connections

Re: Losing steps?
That was me running the toolpath for testing, then homing the machine in between runs. You can see those limits are sometimes several minutes apart, and the stuttering is up to 3-5 times a second

Re: Losing steps?
I'm not sure I am losing steps. running it over the same path again and again shows that it is always coming to what looks like the end of the path. The stuttering seems to happen randomly, but the first little bit of the toolpath doesnt stutter, and it gets worse as it runs.
My steppers are warm to the touch, but not terribly hot.
I am truly baffled.

Re: Losing steps?
If you can return to the same point after experiencing the stuttering, then you are NOT loosing steps. If the before point and the after point differ, then you are loosing steps.
Cheers,
