UNDERSTANDING STPPER WIREING

Post by Tymco »

First conversion from sherline / Masso. finished first test made me happy. I watched every video I could and do not understand how the finished wired stepper could be only the distance away?? what good does the long cable do

That's the cable for the encoder. If you need it to be further away you'll have to either buy longer encoder cables or make your own.

The long cable goes between the stepper encoder pigtail and your control box. It appears that the one shown would connect to a DB9 connector at the control box. You get a choice of 1.5m, 3m, and 5m cables. Two cables per set, one for motor and one for encoder. As Shawn mentioned, if you need longer, you'll have to find or make some.
