Holes!

Post by AtomicAsian »

i think I am close But definitely needs work. I also think it’s my table as well
I have path rules for small holes at 1% and it finally cut decent. I tried to go slower and the PP wouldn’t let me. If I go at what most are (60%) the holes would look like hammered dog s*#+.
2005 Koike monograph. replaced all bearings, motors and wiring
Did Not replace the hardened runways or the 10:1 gearboxes.
the round mount is very shaky. I think I'll experiment with stiffer springs
16g fine cut 45amps straight off the table no grinding.
pics are end to beginning.

Here's an excerpt from the plasma manual:

It is imperative that the mechanical design of the machine operates in the 1 to 2 turns of the axis motor yields 1” of travel on the X and Y axes. Direct ‘Axis motor to Rack Pinion’ driven machines do not provide the best cutting results. A gear box or belt reduction is highly recommended on rack driven machines so one rotation of the axis motor will result in at least 1” of axis travel. Typical gear box ratios used on rack drive Plasma machines are 5:1 and 3:1. ( which one you use depends on the pinion diameter being used). Ensure Machine design is in the “Plasma Sweet Spot” before proceeding.

You machine is set to .3180 on the X and Y and .5 on the Z axis. You're gonna be hard pressed to get any good cuts when you are this far outside the "sweet spot" recommended by Centroid. None of those holes are close to round and thin material is the easiest to get perfect, round holes in.

Have you determined what your backlash is? From the looks of some of the cuts you might have a good amount.

ok I have read page 8 in the manual and still confused on how to get the sweet spot.I have watched Marty’s video as well. is this the only info about how to get that sweet spot?(wife is laughing at me)

Start a google album and fill it with pics of the machine and components and share it with us so we can see what you are working with. Changing the gearboxes or pinions is a start but we need more details about your machine.

The Round mount is shakey because I bet the table has a seizure when it gets to the small holes! I want to get this table up and cutting!!!! I know we can get your table cutting way better if we just get more info on it. The configuration table is still all set to default settings save for the turns ratio right? Just show and tell all the moving parts on your table. Some good quality pictures up close and we will go from there.
You don't have to buy anything to improve your machine from where it's at now. Just upload all the info and pictures you can.
