Temp Correction
Thinking about how much part temp changes final dimension of parts on my lathe and was curious if there is a way to adjust final cuts with a lookup table based on temp of part? Has anyone does something like this?

Re: Temp Correction
Some production machines have a kind of temperature compensation.
Normally based on temperature of the machine bed, because with flood cooling after long production runs temp. of the machine, cooling fluid and part have some correlation.
Needs some time to tune the lookup table to make the compensation work better than without. IMHO overkill for typical machines running with acorn.

Re: Temp Correction
Well if you are not running coolant and you can use and IR sensor directly on the part wouldn't it be beneficial? Keep in mind an increase of 200F in a steel part gives around .001 inch so .002 off on diameter on turning.

Re: Temp Correction
you must calculate the dimension change with the temp coefficient 11.5x10-6 for°C
so 20mm will be 20.0115mm after an 50°C increase (20+((11.5*10-6*50*20))
For single parts calculate by hand quick or cool down before finish pass is more efficient for me.
