For those of you who are not familiar with my builds, I have a 5400 Sherline mini mill and a Sherline chucker lathe, both running on Acorn. Everything was done on both builds and I was gearing up to make parts when both of my spindle drive setups have failed. They were configured with older boards for the spindle control. A KBSI-240D and a the OEM DC speed control boards, a KBLC 240DS and lathe uses a KBIC I believe that came on the machines originally.
I’m considering changing out these boards and going with something more up to date and modern technology I need a reliable system. Anyone have recommendations on a drive that can do speed control with reverse for ridged tapping. Original set up had no reverse but I figure if I’m going to swap stuff out I might as well get reverse and ridged tapping out if the deal.
let’s go back to just speed control with threading NO ridged tapping. Do you have any input on that CNC4PC speed control board? I would just not use the CCW circuit maybe there is another one with only CW rotation.
AND if I were to go with a AC servo does that mean I need a VFD and speed control board or only the VFD, And how much would that cost do you think?

Bill...
I have LeadShine servos in 400, 750 and 1000 watt. 6000 rpm, 0-10v Fwd/Rev control in 60 and 80mm case sizes. With drives, and depending on cable length, start around $375. If you need an adapter made, I can do that also. Email gcnc411@gmail.com for more information.
