How do I set up software with mill and lathe (2 acorn boards) running with one laptop?
I don't want to screw up my settings on my lathe.

Mill and lathe install into separate directories. As long as you don't have both Acorns connected at the same time, you won't have any problems.

Also note the processor single thread benchmark requirements are higher for the mill software than the lathe version.
Even though you may be running the lathe version successfully from a laptop doesn't mean the mill version will also work. Unfortunately, the failure mode is not like the software will not start up, it's much more insidious in that you will get random errors and spend hours tilting at windmills trying to find the cause.
For that reason, as Nigelo points out, laptops are definitely not recommended. Many threads on the forum on suitable low-cost computers.
