Centroid Support

Dear Support,

I purchased an Oak ( ID 1028190864) control from you in 2020 and have almost completed my installation. A combination of factors including COVID have prolonged this effort unfortunately and I am hoping to get it done now so that I can put the machine into service.

What I started with is a Fryer Easy Turn 2000 lathe that I purchased not working from a local trade school. A basic tool room CNC lathe, three gear box speeds, no tool changer. Unknown to me when I purchased it the machine was an early prototype that the factory had donated to the trade school and nobody had gotten it to actually work. It's like a brand new 22 year old machine. It needed a control so I bought yours.

Your instructions have been very good. I got through most of the installation, mounting the control and monitor as I wanted it. I got both axis working, and even had the spindle inverter working sort of. The spindle kept tripping out. I took a close look and found that the factory installed inverter was rated for 5 hp and the spindle motor was 7 ½ hp! As I said, this machine was a failed factory experiment so what could I expect?

I contacted Marshall Wolf Automation and spoke to sales and they picked out an inverter for me, a Fuji Electric FRENIC-Ace. This took months to get, stalling the project. Because the inverter was single phase I needed a new power hookup, getting the proper cable and an electrician during COVID was another roadblock. Plus my guy working on it quit and left me without any notes to follow, so here I am.

I got the high voltage stuff, power, motor , hooked up ok. The connections to your Oak board have me befuddled so here I am.
What I need to hook up is:

OAK FUJI ( my guesses please check)

terminal block H2 term3

Analog in FM1
Analog com 11
Analog out FM2
Analog com 11

terminal block H11

Spin Dir NC FWD (TERM2)
Spin Dir NO REV (TERM2)
Spin Direction CM (TERM2)
Spindle enable Estop circuit
Inv Reset ?

The specific model number of your Fuji Electric FRENIC-Ace would be helpful (apparently there are several variations). Even better would be a link to the manual for your inverter

Sorry if this is a duplicate, having trouble with my photos, sometimes they don't drag and drop first time

Using typical Centroid wire colors and numbers:

540 BLU VFD/CM to PLC/OUT5 COM, jumper to OUT7 COM
541 GRN PLC/OUT5 to VFD/X1 *
544 WHT PLC OUT8NC to VFD/FWD
545 BLK PLC/OUT8NO to VFD/REV
942 WHT/RED VFD/FM2 to PLC/Analog Input **
943 WHT/BLK VFD/11 to PLC/Analog Common
944 BRN PLC/Analog Out to VFD/12
945 VIO PLC/Analog Common to VFD/11
946 YEL TB1/0VDC to VFD/30C
947 ORG VFD/30B to PLC/INP10

* To make X1 act as a fault reset terminal, set Function Code E01 = 8.
** Make sure switch SW7 is set to "V" (not to "I").

You can make any one of X1 - X5 be the "Reset" terminal, by setting the appropriate Function Code equal to 8.
