Shuts down / restarts on it's own

CNC12-D Mill v4.12 on a Inspiron 3475 AIO Series

Sys ID: 0914182035

I only have the computer at this time, so the software will not boot with out the ALLIN1DC board, hence I don't have the report. I do have plenty of pics from a previous visit to the customer.

This has been an issue for months now, intermittently shuts down and restarts on its own.

Paid a dealer $1400 to say nothing is wrong.

I reinstalled and turned on the Windows boot log and it revealed it restarting a lot. The following was extracted from the boot log for 12-15-2021

À12 15 2021 05:51:33.500 Turned on for the day
À12 15 2021 09:02:34.500

12 15 2021 16:45:39.500
À12 16 2021 06:01:52.500 Next morning

Rebooted 13 times by itself on 12/15/21

The following are from the software event log that don’t show up in the windows boot log
6:32 199 cnc started
13:43 199 cnc started
14:20 exiting cnc and shutting down machine (68)
14:36 199 cnc started

We can also see the the "199 cnc started" 1113 which is too much for a 3 year old unit.

Rebooted computer at our shop on 1-4-21 without the machine and without software running, it stayed on for 9 days so far. So we can rule out the computer. we had also replaced the computer's power supply which didn't help. seems like the software is shutting down the system. any thoughts?

From what I can see the Centroid Software was only started 3 times. So I don't see how it would have caused the other 10 shutdowns even if it was somehow triggering a PC shutdown.

Most likely explanation is the computer is losing power. I would need to see the full Windows log however. It should show if a sudden shutdown occurred.

The Centroid Software only has an option for initiating a normal PC shutdown even if it was somehow erroneously doing this. Any normal shutdown is detailed in the Centroid Log and you would see a corresponding entry in the Windows event log.

Since the PC is not losing power at your location I would see how it was wired in at the production facility. If it was wired into machine power I would trace it back and see if a power supply somewhere is dropping in and out.

It could also be an overheat problem.

The CPU presumably works harder and generates more heat when it is connected to a machine and running CNC12, than when it is just sitting idle at a Windows desktop. Do you have something you could run on it, on the bench, that would give the CPU a workout?

I'm at the customer for the day and I posted a report.

"From what I can see the Centroid Software was only started 3 times. So I don't see how it would have caused the other 10 shutdowns even if it was somehow triggering a PC shutdown."

Using 12-15-21 as an example is see the "199 CNC started" 14 times, is that the same as the centroid software starting?

when it comes to the power supply, we have replaced it with a known working one, bypassed the surge protector, and used a different circuit in the building. The computer does not share power with the machine.

I attached the windows bootlog to help out, not sure if that's the" full windows log" you are referring to...

I would like to also mention that we have the same exact setup on another machine that we can use to help diagnose, although there are permission or licensing details that'd have to be figured out.

Thanks

i agree with CNCSNW, i've seen PC CPU fan loose or fallen off that would cause similar issue. easy thing to check first before anything else.

I took off the back cover of the computer and located the fan. It had minor dust on it that I cleaned off and it was operational and in place.

This is getting out of our area of expertise, but, if we are thinking that its a computer problem do we want to consider swapping computers with the other machine they have? or just swap the hard drives?

I currently have the computer at my shop again....

Thanks,

is the pc power supply dropping out? bad connections? pull then and reseat them.

would be good to check the full Windows log as well

IF you swap the PC out, from a known good one from another machine, make sure both machines are running the same version of CNC12.
Make sure you get FRESH reports from both machines and put them on a USB stick. Back up the CNCM directories from both machines as well. Make sure you know which is which.
I would copy the contents of CNC12 on the problem machine to a USB stick.
On the loaner PC, RENAME the CNCM directory to something like CNCM - Loaner.
Then I would copy in the CNCM directory from the suspect machine. Should then boot up fine and run the correct configuration on the suspect machine.

In looking at the error log on the suspect machine. F7 Utility, F9 Logs, F1 Errors. You may or may not be aware of the issues. but they should be corrected as well.

Also make sure the suspect machine has quencharcs on all relays, lube pumps motors etc.

Just my suggestions.

as far as the power supply goes, this is an external one, similar to a laptop power supply. it just plugs into the back which is a port on the mother board. We have swapped this power supply already.

I figured out how to see some windows logs via Event Viewer, I'll attach them. When you view them, just be aware that from 1-4-22 to 1-13-22 then computer was sitting idle at my place. and as I mentioned before, i've been using 12-15-21 as a reference date. Also, I don't know much about this stuff so hopefully you guys can help out and understand this.

A couple notes:
In the application log there seems to be a lot of "MSiInstaller" showing up.

in the system log there's plenty problems logged, including the following happening multiple times:

A fatal hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Bus/Interconnect Error
Processor APIC ID: 0"

When it comes to swapping the computers, I've tried it in the past and it didn't work because of license problems I assume, it was in demo mode or something. I assume they are exactly the same, they were bought and delivered as a pair. If I do as you say would that allow it to operate fully?

I'm not there currently there, but i have the computer and have time to go up there today and tomorrow. There has been talk about just swapping computers and keeping the hard drives with their original machine to see if that moves the problem. But, again I'm not an expert at this and don't even know if it's possible.

On a side note, I have paid for support a while ago and you guys are welcome to call. I guess I was waiting for a call, and then I called with no answer, and then i posted here and it seems to be working ok.

Thanks

*I couldn't attach the Windows Event Viewer files (.evtx), so i'm just going to attach them in text format, not sure if these will be helpful. I can email them to anyone interested.
