Spindle Encoder Differential Error

Post by viscoelastic »

First of this machine is a Bridgeport Explorer X26. The spindle encoder had 3 wires. My guess on colors was Red + Blk - Wht "A" signal. Once wired and enabled in the parameters, I received an encoder differential error. One, did I wire it correctly, two what did I goof up on?

Thanks!!

If it only has three wires, it is not a suitable encoder.

You need a "quadrature", "differential" encoder: one with both A and B channels, and with two complementary wires per channel.

If you plan to do rigid tapping with it, you also need an index pulse (Z channel), also differential.

That makes eight wires, as shown on most any Centroid system schematic.

Thanks, That makes sense.
