Recommendations on replacing Wabeco CC-F1200HS controller
I am helping a friend with his 1200HS mill. It came with nccad7.5 software and CNC controller that seems to be proprietary and never worked.
We are thinking of replacing the controller hardware with Centroid while keeping the stock stepper motors, limit switches and spindle.
Has anyone done something similar for a Wabeco mill ? Looking to smooth out the conversion process and learn from the experts here. I am an electronics engineer and more familiar with 3D printers (I have a SnapMaker 250) than CNC milling.

I found the manual with wiring, could be helpful for the conversion:

Thanks Uwe. I'll make a wiring map to use an Acorn controller and Gecko stepper drivers as a first step.

Really wished you would post pictures of the machine, the current control, make and model of the stepper motors, stepper drivers etc.shchua wrote: ↑Sat Jan 08, 2022 11:05 pm I am helping a friend with his 1200HS mill. Having that detail would allow us to better provide good useful suggestions. We can't "SEE" what you "SEE"
More details will get you better suggestions.
Good luck with the build!
Marty

It looks like there is no VFD to process the spindle speed signal.
I like the wabeco milling machines, if you manage to migrate from that weird CNC software it came with, and install Acorn on it, it will run great.

Re: Recommendations on replacing Wabeco CC-F1200HS controller
I converted Wabeco Mill 1200HS and Lathe D6000 using Acorn. Without any problem but in Lathe spindle motor was changed to asynchronous in mill was already mounted.

Re: Recommendations on replacing Wabeco CC-F1200HS controller
For axis I used Clearpath motors SD but presently I think that servo motor like delta Asd- a2 or Estun (with output signal) is much better choice due to avoid home switches for homing (more precise homing process)

Re: Recommendations on replacing Wabeco CC-F1200HS controller
The machine seems to have a VFD (M1 in the schematic below) that supports 10V input. It is currently connected to a potentiometer giving a range of 0 to 10V. Acorn should be able to drive this VFD.

Thanks ! I'll try to get his machine working with the stock steppers and let him decide if he wants to upgrade later.
