Hey Marty sorry for not posting more pics etc. this thread started after I had no response to email inquiries as to what to look for so I called and was told that the tech did not come to work but would call or email and that I should post a question on the forum to see if anyone can help. That is what I did! The cabinet is in disarray now because I did trace all wires and moved encoder cables and other things to see if anything was damaged, I followed the steps I was told to to diagnose the acorn and bbg and found the bbg would not power up, this no heart beat has happened a half a dozen times this year usually when i change setting in the wizard and are asked to power cycle the acorn sometimes takes three tries for it to have a heart beat again. The bbg going down does not surprise me as we have many bbb. arduino, rpii, and other boards on projects that have had issues like this. Asking for an rma# was what I was told to do if the bbg would not power up so I did. attached is a pic of a torn apart cabinet from tracing problems as you refer to. I'm not trying to seek free parts but if it is warrantied obviously that would be great, I just want this fixed asap.martyscncgarage wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 11:15 amI would have liked to see your control cabinet, and exactly what steps occurred that led up to the malfunction. It is important, the last thing you want is to put in a new Acorn and it happens again. So its best to try and get to the root cause of the problem first.redbrewsathome wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 6:03 pm We have been using an acorn for almost a year on a router and love it, out of the blue last Saturday all the relays on the expansion board came on(turning laser cross, vacuum, dust collection and air on at once!) and the heartbeat went out. Now I can not communicate with acorn or do anything, we have checked all wiring and tried power cycling many times to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Basic diagnostics and troubleshooting should happen.
Following this post would be most helpful help provide suggestions.

Centroid will inspect your board and they will be able to determine whether it was a component failure or damage.
My personal experience in 5+ of working with Acorn, is that I have not experienced any Acorn failures because of components on Acorn. I HAVE experienced failures because of self inflicted mishaps. I have also noticed intermittent operational problems by users not following good or proper wiring practices. This is not to say you didn't get an Acorn with a component failure. Electronics components do have a failure rate. Centroid does understand the importance of reliability in machine motion control, so they do their best to source reliable components from reliable sources.
Can you explain what was going on step by step leading up to the failure?
Marty
As for step by step leading up to the failure, we cut parts on friday and on saturday plugged the machine in and the bbg would not power up!
P.S. following that forum link to posting is great, maybe the people answering the support line and telling people to post questions could give out that link, would greatly speed this up!
