no heartbeat and relays on always

Post by redbrewsathome »

We have been using an acorn for almost a year on a router and love it, out of the blue last Saturday all the relays on the expansion board came on(turning laser cross, vacuum, dust collection and air on at once!) and the heartbeat went out. Now I can not communicate with acorn or do anything, we have checked all wiring and tried power cycling many times to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Board was also dead one day after running a new part.

Solution was a bad placed wire from one NPN home sensor, that got squeezed and shorted at max. Y travel.

Replaced the wire and took care of not to squeeze it, problem solved.

Hello. the BBG might have been 'bricked'. if so perform the debricking procedure.

Thank you, is it possible to purchase an ether1616 kit and a thc kit and have them sent back with acorn to save some shipping and packaging?

I would have liked to see your control cabinet, and exactly what steps occurred that led up to the malfunction. It is important, the last thing you want is to put in a new Acorn and it happens again. So its best to try and get to the root cause of the problem first.
Basic diagnostics and troubleshooting should happen.

Following this post would be most helpful help provide suggestions.

Centroid will inspect your board and they will be able to determine whether it was a component failure or damage.
My personal experience in 5+ of working with Acorn, is that I have not experienced any Acorn failures because of components on Acorn. I HAVE experienced failures because of self inflicted mishaps. I have also noticed intermittent operational problems by users not following good or proper wiring practices. This is not to say you didn't get an Acorn with a component failure. Electronics components do have a failure rate. Centroid does understand the importance of reliability in machine motion control, so they do their best to source reliable components from reliable sources.

Can you explain what was going on step by step leading up to the failure?
Marty
