A Couple Turns of Motor Shaft then 9031 Error (RESOLVED)

Post by cncbuiltbyme »

Hello,

I’ve been working on this for a couple weeks now and really need some help and direction.

I have 3 Leadshine Closed Loop Nema 34 (86CME80) connected to Leadshine CL86H stepper drivers (and each connected to its own 48V power supply) for the X axis, Y axis and slave Y axis.

I also have one Leadshine Closed Loop Nema 23 (57CME23) connected to Leadshine CL57 stepper driver (connected to 36V power supply) for the Z axis.

I have not yet received my DB25 breakout board so I'm using the screw terminals to connect the drives to dir and step at the screw terminals. I'm configured for the bench test with only one motor connected. I have tried the X axis motor and then the Z axis motor with the same results. E-stop is connected and working properly.

The problem: After resetting the board (after starting the software), I can click on the Z- and the motor turns a couple turns and then I get 9031 drive fault error. After resetting the error, I am able to turn the motor a couple turns again and again get the same 9031 drive fault error.

Question 1: Are the screw terminals the same as the DB25 pin connections as far as connecting the drivers?

Question 2: What is the 9031 fault error and is there a way to fix it?

Drive are set to 1600 micro-steps (default setting).

Thanks

Well you don't give us much to work with here! I see in your location header that you are using an Acorn controller.

So Acorn is not closed loop and if you are getting a drive error when you try to move an axis I'd look at the setup and see if you have anything wired to the fault inputs.

Some closed loop steppers have a fault output and Acorn will move the drive some before it faults out. It might be that you have the fault state backward. Normally open vs Normally closed.

I think the 9031 error is a drive fault error but I don't have my manual handy. You can download the manual from Centroid and look at the fault codes yourself if you need to know!

Drive fault error means the one of your axis drives is signalling the Acorn that it has a fault condition. You'll need to get the actual error from the drive and consult the drive manual to determine the cause.

Thanks for the replies... I did change Input 5 (DriveOK) to NO and the 9031 fault error stopped appearing. The motor doesnt turn at all now (just an initial clicking sound) but I'm currently working on that within settings and double checking the wiring.

Thanks for replying Marty, I was able to get the motors to work properly after checking the boxes for "drive enable".
