Acorn CNC Controller for routers with rotary (Answered)

Post by umnik »

Using Acorn CNC Controller and whole ecosystem looks attractive to me. Just wandering, can it support systems with twin-drive Y-axe (independent motors on sides) and rotary (lathe? OR 4-th axe)? As I gathered Acorn has 4-axe support only right? or there is some way to do it anyway somehow?

You'd have to use hardware pairing for the Y axis and drive the rotary with the 4th axis output.

If you use Teknic ClearPath servos, look at the C86ACCP BOARD ($48 ) from CNC4PC. It has X, Y, Z, and A axis control with a slave for either the X axis or the Y axis.

Bottom line as Tom eluded to, you would have to use HARDWARE PAIRING for your master/slave axis. I believe the board Richards mentions of from CNC4PC allows you to do that. You would manually square your router. You would not be able to use Autosquaring as it requires software pairing (Master on one axis and slave on the other) and doing that would not leave you with an available axis for using your rotary axis.
Acorn currently has only 4 axis to work with.

Guys,
thank you for responses, I got the idea.
BTW, I found detailed document on how to handle twin drive systems with acorn here

How can I change the rpm of my stepper motor rotaty axe . For now it is very slow .
I have one connection on X ,Z the Y and Yslave and A rotary .

XYZ steps per rev are too slow, and should be 1600 or greater.

You increase the MAX RATE value, and max jog value if needed
