Re: Help needed on the best way to control a 8 position lathe turret
I think the issue here is that you are trying to do something with an external micro controller that Acorn and CNC12 are capable of handling on their own, so in essence what you are doing is experimental. Only you know how the turret operates.
You could explain step by step how the turret operates and you could upload a video to YouTube and post a link here so we can see it operate.
We could then see if one of the "Stock" Lathe Turret programs would work or maybe work with slight modification. (I know you uploaded previous videos but not sure if there is an updated video that shows where you are at now)
I don't understand what the turret is doing now and what you want output 8 to do. I'm not clear on that.

Re: Help needed on the best way to control a 8 position lathe turret
The issue I'm trying to prevent is caused by Acorn blinking the #2 output, (turret rotate pin in centroid gray code turret program) when you press the program stop button, coolant automatic/manual button, feed hold or reset. I see the blink on my I/O screen. This causes my turret to seek index and go to a tool anywhere it is sitting.
I can can fix this with a limit switch at tool change position but I thought code would be cleaner.

Re: Help needed on the best way to control a 8 position lathe turret
You didn't answer my question really.
Why are you trying to use a micro controller to control a turret when CNC12 and Acorn could handle this.
Please demonstrate the Output 2 issue you are referring to in a video clip and post a fresh report so it can be taken a look at. (your last report dated 3/24/21 seems to indicate you are running on version 4.18, we are up to 4.64 you get your software upgraded.)

Re: Help needed on the best way to control a 8 position lathe turret
We resolved it from our end by using a dwell on the rotate pin input from Acorn to Arduino so it does not react to short signals and added a output from pin 1 Acorn to the turret driver enable circuit to stop the turret if reset is pressed

Re: Help needed on the best way to control a 8 position lathe turret
This file is serial data being recorder from Acorn output/input pins the the Arduino uses to control the tool turret and tool height.
Look through the file and you will notice as I'm stopping a running program, feed hold, press reset and the wildest on is at the end. Acorn sends a short pulse to pin 2 to rotate the turret. The last one is me manualy cycling coolant a few times. Our code now ignores short outputs from acorn but they are there in this version 4.18.
I know I should update but the turret is working here in v4.18 and when I run the wizard and save it, it removes all my turret settings. I have been following you helping another the other day and you asked him to wait on a change to the version I think.
There are a lot of new features I see in the new one I like but I will watch others.
The reason why I built this turret because it has a tool offset for each tools height that can be adjusted for any tool added to the turret. There is no mechanical pawl, It reverses against a sprag for each tool location.

Centroid will not look at an old version. Please update to 4.64

Re: Help needed on the best way to control a 8 position lathe turret
JumpS4 I have the exact same lathe. I am in the process of hooking up my encoder. That is the exact same way I am doing my encoder. Also you seem to have added an enclosure. Would you happen to have any pics of your enclosure that you made for it.
Also can you tell me what 3HP motor you are using? Any issues upgrading to from the 1 hp to the 3hp? Flex of the machine?
Thanks for the reply

Hi
The lathe build is here viewtopic.php?f=57&t=3068&p=22987#p22987
and the dxf files I made are in a zip file in the thread. page 3 half way down

Re: Help needed on the best way to control a 8 position lathe turret
The motor is a 3hp 3-phase tread mill motor I bought on eBay. They are heavy wound and designed for vfd use.
here is a 5hp on Ebay now for $45.00 dollars https://www.ebay.com/itm/STARTRAC-varia ... SweVhgVVap
