What Axis Drive Type?

Post by brightnight »

I'm using Gecko G320x motor drivers and wonder what I select for axis drive type. I assume the closest would be:
"Gecko G201, G214, and others"?

I'm trying to start by turning a motor. If I set my axis drive type to "Gecko G201, G214, and others" I don't see how to set the limit switches to NO so that I can run a motor without a limit switch. When I go to the input definition and choose limit for input type, it doesn't look like I can edit the limit switches. All the videos I've watch show the old Wizard which was a separate program and has a dropdown menu.

Yes, you can start with that drive type and customize it if you need to. You shouldn't even be worried about setting a limit switch input when you are first doing a bench test. The only input that should be set is the estop which is on input 8. It defaults to normally closed and if you click the green circled number 8 it will turn red and change its input state to normally open. This will allow you to bench test, on the bench, without an actual e stop switch. You should not be testing the Acorn with your drive while hooked to your machine. This can be dangerous to you and can damage the machine if something isn't right. All the other inputs should be blank or you can set them to NO for testing purposes without anything being wired to the Acorn inputs.

As I understand it they are working on updated videos for the new software and wizard. Hopefully all the old videos will soon be removed from Youtube to avoid confusion as Centroid only supports the latest version of their software.

We can't see what you see.
Make sure you have the most current version of software loaded as well.

Yes to your question of loading the Geckodrive.
You are better off connecting the G320X to a DB25 male breakout board such as this:
