Re: Installing the Acorn with Adtech CNC drives
Check your DIR wiring. Sounds like it's not getting the signal to change DIR.
You can take a DC voltmeter, put the black to a spare COM terminal on Acorn header. Take the red probe and put it on the servo drive -Dir terminal and measure the voltage. The reverse the motor. Does the voltage change? In one state it's high, in the other state it's low.
But you say you swapped the drives and the problem follows the drive?
I'd still check that the Dir terminal voltage. See if it's going high and low.
Please take and post pictures of your wiring/setup. So maybe we can see what might be going on....

Re: Installing the Acorn with Adtech CNC drives
Marty, given that the woking servo drive, lets call it Drive A, works in both directions, on either of the Acorn Step and Direction ports, with either cable, surely both ports / cables are Ok and are outputting a Dir signal?
I will test the voltage change on the Acorn's Dir port with a meter and post the voltage change observed shortly.
I'll also take a picture

What file extensions are allowed for video files? I tried to upload an MP4 video of the issue, but got the message "invalid extension".

Re: Installing the Acorn with Adtech CNC drives
I've had a similar issue with Panasonic drives from Acorn. Ill need to look up what I did to fix it but its related to a parameter which looks at the step / direction 'sequencing'. Hard to explain without the image but if you think of an encoder setup, A B Z pulse, it expects the B after the A etc (and a state which could be high or low).
On the Panasonic, you have different options and these need to be correct otherwise the servo doesnt recognise the reverse direction and never stops spinning the same direction.
If it worked before and suddenly stopped, then this cannot be it (unless you have changed something).

Re: Installing the Acorn with Adtech CNC drives
If you look at this - Appendix page 43 shows the setting I'm talking about (for Panasonic) but an example. In my case, I had this wrong and had the same problem, Servo would always run in a single direction only.

Forgot I can attach an image, so see below.

Re: Installing the Acorn with Adtech CNC drives
Thanks Chaz, I think this is probably caused by something I've done in my initial attempts to get things working. I have 2 X identical drives (Adtech QSA15M) one of which works as expected and one which refuses to run in a positive direction. This afternoon I retried to copying every setting from the working drive to the recalcitrant drive to no avail. I then put both drives back into the old controller for M3 and found the same issue. This was not evident when I took things apart to change to Acorn, so I can only assume that it has been caused by something I've done, but I don't know what.Chaz wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 3:28 am I've had a similar issue with Panasonic drives from Acorn. I have swapped cables motors and controllers now and the problem always stays with the Z axis servo controller.
I am almost stumped.
