Workbee/Openbuilds conversion 1000x1500 CNC

Post by VincentS »

I've just completed my Ooznest Workbee cnc conversion to an Acorn system.

I liked this machine already wich is perfect for my kind of use. But the Duet control system was some how a bit hobby style. After some research I came up with the Acorn.. and some heavy'r stepper motors including drivers

The conversion went super easy. Documentation from Centroid is absolutely fantastic. A big thumbs up. CNC mill pro already ordered because 50kb is really nothing and can't imagine any work under that file size...

For now next weeks will be a lot of testing and finetuning. Most of all get my dust collection up and running in a proper way..

So far.. I'm happy

Here are some video's of my first testrun. And yes my mill runned too hot because I tried to drill holes with it 🙄

After all I'm not quit satisfied and working now on changing my Y belt to a 12mm spindle to start with. If I had the choice again I would build my CNC from scratch. The workbee is a real nice router to start with but things got from hobby to work.. Keep you all updated!

Update Workbee/Openbuilds conversion 1000x1500 CNC

Post by VincentS »

Hi,

Here's a little update converting my Workbee CNC to a decent CNC router. So far I've added a new gantry and Z axis. Because of the light bending of the previous gantry I took a 160mm heavy duty extruded profile. I knew my new spindle would be a lot havier as well so good choice there.

The spindle has been updated for a RATT motor with a VFD 10000 to 24000 rpm.

Still waiting for my dust shoe but so far so good.

I have to say I do have some EMI problems so I've ordered some net filters and today I'm going to drill a separate groundbar into the ground just for my CNC. I my case I hope 6 meters will do.

Keep you updated
