Acorn 4.14 Backgear input information

Post by the1depot »

I am using input 6 to control the backgear speed and direction displayed on the Controller interface and direction of the spindle. The gear ratio is set to -0.125 for a 8:1 gear ratio in a Bridgeport mill. I have used the wizard to assign this input6 but when it is toggled there is no change in the direction of the VFD. The display does not change the range. If I use the spindle range buttons on the VCP the display changes and the VFD changes direction. What am I missing?

I have this working on a CNC10 Centroid controller version using a proximity switch.

I found Backgear references in the forum but none related to the issue I am experiencing. The input is changing states on the I/O screen "ALT I"

I have attached the current report.

Thank you for your help.

How do you have it wired?

According to your report, All references to backgear are commented out in the PLC. Did you do this just using the wizard or are you changing the PLC?

the report also has some very strange steps per values for X and Y (5632?) what kind of drives are you using?

I have it wired to a switch. The input is status is changing states. The Input Definitions for input 6 is backgear. I used the wizard only, no changes were made to the PLC Directly.

I am using Machdrives BRA Servos. Encoders are 512 that's why the odd number, anyway all that is working fine. Just working though this issue with the backgear switching. Thanks Jim

One thing I found is, using the wizard if I change input6 to unused the backgear references is no longer commented out. If I use the wizard again it comments out the backgear functionality

so still trying to answer josh's question....so..you have a NC switch wired in to input 6 as the back gear indicator switch?

For what it's worth, the PLC program has something called "SpindleLowRange", as well as something called "BackGear".

Only "SpindleLowRange" appears in the section that deals with gear ratio and direction.

I would guess there is a mismatch between what the Wizard expects, and what is in the template PLC program.

looks like back gear logic got left out...so work around is to use "SpindleLowRange" in the Wizard for the backgear switch input and be sure to put the Low range gear ratio in as a negative number and you should be good to go.
