Sounds like you are using v4.14 for Oak and Allin1dc.

To run Acorn v4.14 you need a running Acorn connected to the cncpc.

For the benefit of the Beginners and Newbies I have to insist that my method to setup a Metric systems is definitely the much better way to do it and here is exactly why. So if you are a Beginner/Newbie, read this and make up your own opinion:

As a Newbie, you don't know what a good value is for some of the parameters in the Wizard and you might not even know what some of the parameters are used for. So in that case, you just accept the default value that's being presented by the Wizard. Now let's have a look at these parameters. When you launch the Wizard right after installing CNC12, you will get the following screens:

Capture1.JPG
Capture2.JPG

All of the default parameter values are for an Imperial system. Now when you switch from Imperial to Metric in the Wizard, all these default values stay the same and they do not make sense for Metric systems as you can see from this screen shot:
Capture3.JPG

Some of these parameters are 25 times to small for a Metric system. As an example, your x1 Jog Increment is now set to 0.000787mm. Also the recovery distance for your probe is now 0.05mm and the slow probing rate is 3mm/min which is way to small. So if you are going to accept default values for some of the parameters, you might end up with parameter values that are not suitable for a Metric system.

If you are going to switch CNC12 to Metric before launching the Wizard, you will get default parameter values in the Wizard that make sense for a Metric system as you can see from these screen shots:
Capture4.JPG
Capture5.JPG
As you can see, these default parameter values now make sense for Metric systems.

This is Centroid's product and they have the right to suggest what they think is the best way to install their product. I gave you all the facts above and that should be enough for you to make your own decision what's the better way for you.

swissi,
thanks...
fyi...instructing user to start with CNC12 configuration has its pitfalls as well! I'd rather have a newbie not go down that rabbit hole. (for instance if you leave CNC12 in the configuration menu while using the wizard the wizard will not write the values to CNC12 configuration and appears to throw away all your values.)

So, its best to use the Wizard to set up an Acorn!
and I don't think its too difficult for a metric user to set metric values properly using the Wizard. Lets review them the list is short...

When using Metric mode be sure set these values using Millimeters..

-Max Rate (the maximum rate that the machine will Travel in mm/minute (G0 rate))
-Fast Jog (Fast Rate of the Jog Buttons in mm/Minute)
-Slow Jog (Slow Rate of the Jog Buttons in mm/Minute)
-Basic Jog increment in MM (.01 is common mm number this is the amount an axis will travel with in Incremental Jog mode set to X1)
- and the most important Overall Turns Ratio is a metric value as well it requires the user to enter the millimeter value of the axis movement when the axis motor is rotated one revolution. Enter that linear value in millimeters for a linear axis.

and if you are using a Probe set these values to mm values
- Fast Probing rate in mm/minute, typical value is 250 mm/min
- Slow Probing rate in mm/minute, typical value is 1.5 mm/min
- Probing Recovery distance in mm, typical value is 1.5 mm

thats it... piece of cake, no need to use CNC12 configuration menus.

I added edited custom M6 macros to this thread that should work with v4.14, give them a try, edit them, make them yours..etc..

Re: Acorn CNC12 v4.14 has been released. (DYN2 and DYN4 USERS READ)

Post by martyscncgarage »

If you are a DYN2 or DYN4 User:

If you are a DYN2 user and use the DB25, checking the DYN2/DYN4 Radio button will work fine, as doing so will default the PLC to using the DB25

IF you are a DYN4 User, you MUST Go in and change from DB25 to Screw Terminal (Assuming you connected DYN4 per the Acorn schematics to the Screw terminals and not the DB25 connector) or you will not have motor movement.

Centroid ran out of time to seperate DYN2 and DYN4 to have their own drive radio buttons. It is hoped to be corrected in the next release of software.

I hope the next version doesn’t take away the ability to use the db25 step/direction with the screw terminal enable signal.

I don't see a reason to remove it. I understand why it is necessary. I think it used to be that the signals were active on the DB25 and the Header. I think that happend when they designed in the pin mapping function of the DB25 though not sure.

I have updated to the 4.14. I need to add two inputs that are not listed in the pick list,(Pause and Resume). I have them tied to input 4 and 6 on the Acorn board. From the Alt i screen they are working as they should. How do I get Centroid to get them to pause and resume the machine?

if you would like Centroid tech support to create a custom PLC program you can purchase an hour's worth of tech support and they help you out, alternatively you can edit the plc program yourself and add the functionality you would like.. a primer video on that is here.
